Pregnancy Prevention
Pregnancy prevention is an essential tool to prevent pre-natal substance abuse. Because statistics show that the majority of mothers who abuse substances prenatally are younger, sex education is crucial to help deter early pregnancy. Even though abstinence only education is being taught throughout the U.S., and is in fact, the only federally funded form of sex education, abstinence only education has proved to be quite ineffective and has no significant impact on teen pregnancy.
Sex Education
Sex education is crucial to teenagers to teach them the risks and consequences associated with sex. As mentioned above, abstinence only education keeps teenagers in the dark, and assumes that they will not have sex. Teenagers are going to have sex anyways, so it is important to educate them on the subject.
Contraceptive Use
Contraceptive use falls under proper sex education. There are more teen pregnancies in the United States compared to other western nations because of teenagers not using contraception as much, or using the incorrectly.
Loving Parents
Loving parenting has shown to be correlated with less teen pregnancy because girls will be less likely to exhibit external and internal behavior.
